(2014) El Arosa (arabic: the puppet, the bride, the doll), is an experimental video project using sculptural costumes, and touching upon themes of womanhood. Sourcing for materials in markets and amongst common goods (loofah, hair tyes), I found myself using mundane Egyptian products, loosely relating to domesticity. I worked on this project as I was preparing my own wedding, and questioning the meaning of marriage and its role in a patriarchal society, especially in Egypt where a woman's main goal in life is to get married. From this starting point, the piece organically evolved into this video piece. 2014
